You can take many funny and artistic pictures when you place some object under falling water. You can wait for a rainy day but it is not a good idea: you and your camera will be wet, you cannot adjust the lights, etc. Here we will describe a simple way to make an artificial rain on your backyard.
See the picture below for details
Some tips:
1. To avoid harsh shadows move your object from the direct sunlight.
2. Use reflector to make the light softer.
3. Work near the sunlight/shadow border as it is shown in the picture. Try to find a place where water drops will be illuminated by sun.
4. Think about the background. Remember that after a few seconds after you turned water on a little "pond" will be around your object. We used small stones as the background but maybe you will get a better idea.
5. Use a tripod. You will need to close the diaphragm to increase the depth of field.
6. Exposition time about 0.1 - 0.3 sec is the best. You will see interesting smoothing effects for falling water.
Conclusion:
Artificial rain helps you to take funny and artistic photos.
