In this tutorial we are going to learn how to make a Star Burst effect and different textured shapes with filter effects. We will make cylindrical shapes and a cracked apple .

1. Getting started

Start with a new document, 540x380 in size with a white background.

Create a new Layer ( Ctrl + Shift + N ).

Select Rectangular Marquee Tool and make vertical selection.

Grab the Gradient Tool image 4 and apply the area with a gradient color you want the background to be.

I choose a nice combination of violet with these gradient settings:

Deselect (Press Ctrl + D) the object and repeat the steps. Create more vertical gradient bars.

Using Magic Wand Tool , image 7 select the white excess bars and fill out with gradient color settings of:

And now your document should look like this.

It isn't important to copy my own pattern. It doesn't matter, use your own creativity and try to use other colors and gradient color combinations.

2. Filter Distort Polar Coordinates.

This is most exciting part of our tutorial. Select the layer Go to Filter -> Distort-> Select Polar Coordinates.

A dialog box will appear and make these settings:

The output should look like this:

Use Free Transform and stretch the object.

And now your document should look like this:

3. Creating Filtered effect objects.

Now we add some different objects on our nice background.

I have chosen to draw an apple.

Using Pen Tool I make this curve vector lines for an apple shape.

Now we add some Filter Effects to our object.

Go to Filter -> Texture -> Grain and make these settings:

We add some Blending effects, Go to Layer -> Layer Style -> Blending Options and this is the settings:

It should be like this:

4. Creating texture styled shapes

Now we add some more objects around the apple. I choose to draw red cylinders around the apple.

To make it simple use the pen tool and make a cylinder like this:

I draw cylinders around the apple in different sizes.

Now we add some texture to our cylinders Go to Filter -> Distort -> Ocean Ripple then enter this settings:

After that Go to Filter -> Sketch -> Chrome and enter these settings:

Now Select Layer -> Layer Style -> Blending Option and enter these settings on Color Overlay:

And it should be like this:

Using the Ellipse Tool , Draw some elongated circles on the top of the cylinders

5. Finishing the product.

We finish the design by making some shadows using Rounded Rectangular Tool with a radius of 100px and set the opacity to 80%.

I also put a Thunder design on the apple using brush tool. You can download Custom Thunder Brush here.
